Brendan is who you hire when you’re looking for someone to treat your project with a passion and serious-mindedness that rivals your own. After years on set, as well as behind the camera directing, Brendan is wise to the needs of almost every person involved in making a movie. You can rely on Brendan and his team to offer creative solutions to the largest challenges facing your project — all while supporting the integrity of your vision. Brendan is committed to making your story as powerful as those which inspired him to build a company that collaborates with the most talented people in film, including recent projects with Steven Spielberg, Ang Lee and J.J. Abrams.
Greg comes to us via the west coast where he first combined his creative talents and computer savvy, landing a gig in VFX. After years perfecting his production skills at Image Engine and later Prime Focus World in Vancouver, an appetite for new adventure set in. Greg and his family relocated to Toronto and partnered with Mavericks VFX. We rely on him to handle the logistics and budgeting of our VFX shots. It’s hard to imagine anyone more organized and reliable than Greg. He has mastered execution, a skill we trace back to his love of sport: snowboarding, surfing, mountain biking and golfing. Greg expects he’ll have more time to shred mountains and slash waves when his fraternal twins are old enough to join him.
When Josh tired of living on a ship and installing pipes on the ocean floor, he reimagined how his love of working with robotics could be useful. He earned his second degree — this time in visual design — and, after years working in the VFX scene, we’re pleased Josh joined Mavericks VFX. We enjoy the benefits of his fix-it/can-do nature as he builds comprehensive workflows for us and ensures our pipeline is efficient. Josh is the sort of guy anyone would like to have on their team. If he’s not at work, you’ll find him on the court or the beach very likely teaching his sweet son how to set and shoot a volleyball.
We count on Rob to carry many of our projects through the final phase of our pipeline. Early days, he intended to go to school for software engineering, but a family friend persuaded him instead toward a career in VFX. Rob’s success as a compositor has no doubt been aided by his genuine talent as an artist. His grade school teachers allowed him to pencil murals on his desk while others were forbidden. Rob was part of the Oscar Award-winning VFX team for Life of Pi. He's quick to attribute that win to the collective efforts of everyone involved in the project. We’re not surprised: team is pretty central to Rob’s world view. He’s big into playing softball and also enjoys solo sports, including mountain biking and rock climbing.
Mike has a talent for seeing how things need to get done. Likely owing to his skills as an architect, he designs work processes that help us optimize our creativity and efficiency. Mike’s kind wisdom recalls another era and his South African accent adds another layer of charm. We’re tempted to say that Mike is Mavericks VFX’s secret weapon, but then, it wouldn’t be so secret. It’s endlessly helpful (and impressive) to us that Mike has got more than two decades of experience in VFX and has also owned his own business.
Winston is the talent that every VFX studio hopes to have access to: award-winning artist whose decades-long experience seamlessly combines with humility and a sense of humour. Seriously. Revered early in his career as a Flame artist, Winston dominated the world of commercial production before switching to that of film. We turn over our projects to Winston for his input on how to elevate our work to perfection. A quiet and gifted leader, Winston can quickly pinpoint and effectively convey what tweak is required. When he’s not toiling behind a screen, Winston is mastering the kitchen, setting new creative standards for Chinese cuisine.
