VFX Producer

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Connect with prospective clients in efforts to bring in new business.
  • Produce sales/pitchvis material to assist with obtaining client awards.
  • Create and communicate VFX bids/breakdowns based on client supplied documents – scripts, QuickTime edits, .pdf/Excel breakdowns, etc.
  • Maintain and communicate VFX budges throughout the course of the project; including change orders, and full client accounting VFX reconciliation upon show end.
  • Facilitate and manage (with clients as well as internally) with bringing new projects online – Turnover requirements, show specifications (resolution, color space, etc.), delivery requirements (both DPX and QuickTimes), etc.
  • Maintain and communicate project delivery dates (screenings, temps, finals, etc.) with client and with the internal Mavericks VFX team
  • Work with the VFX Coordinators to create internal project milestones for all departments, to assure that the client delivery dates are met, and that these milestones are communicate with all artists.
  • Oversee that the client’s notes and needs are being met, and are being properly communicated in dailies and to the artists.
  • Supply the client with weekly project status reports to keep them informed on the status of all shots, as well as the client delivery dates.
  • Manage and assign the VFX Coordinators to all projects.
  • Assist with outlining, establishing, and maintaining production workflows to help assure productivity and effectiveness of all departments.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Highly organized with excellent scheduling and task management skills.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience within the VFX or Film production industry.
  • Conversant with visual effects terminologies and processes.
  • Ability to liaise and collaborate with clients, artists and producers.
  • Working experience with Shotgun (project software)
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office package (including word, excel)
  • Must have the ability to work autonomously and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills critical
  • Candidate must be able to work within a team environment
  • Should be legally allowed to work in Canada.

VFX Supervisor

DESCRIPTION:

The Visual Effects Supervisor is responsible for achieving the creative aims of the Director and/or Producers through the use of visual effects. Responsible for the VFX Post Production process, creatively leading the artists throughout the show ensuring that good and clear communication occurs at all times between the artists, editor and client. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Requires understanding of production process, as approves work of all crew on a show. 
  • Verifies technical solutions proposed by other crew members. 
  • Works closely with film director to develop and interpret their creative vision. 
  • Briefs entire crew on director’s creative vision to enable artists to produce desired results. 
  • Communicates with external production companies. 
  • Management responsibility – to coordinate management of show, project schedules to ensure work is delivered to deadlines, managing crew. 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least 10+ years VFX post-production experience. 
  • Creative eye and aesthetic judgement – knowing composition, cinematic design and animation timing 
  • Needs to have an understanding of Directing/Lighting/Camera work/Practical Effects/Camera Gripping/Art Department/Production Design and Props 
  • Innate sense of composition, light, colour and excellent attention to detail 
  • On-set supervision experience. 
  • Ability to work to and meet strict deadlines often under pressure 
  • Excellent communication, organization skills and financial and budget management skills 
  • Expert in industry standard software packages such as Maya, Houdini. A thorough understanding of the CG & 2D principles and pipeline is essential

Character Rigging/FX TD

DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented CG Rigging/Character FX TD to join our VFX department and work on 3D feature films and television series. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for character features such as hair, fur, muscle systems cloth and rigging.
  • Able to create efficient character simulations for multiple types of character features including hair/cloth and skin.
  • Collaborate with production, supervisors and colleagues in order to problem solve
  • Work closely with VFX Supervisors and Leads to determine the best approach to solve fx challenges and develop final look in shot development
  • Have a very good knowledge of the following software: Maya, Houdini, Nuke, V-Ray, Linux

BONUS

  • Participates in writing utility scripts (Mel/Python) that streamlines the simulation development process. 
  • Self-driven great team player and be resourceful and innovative

REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidate should have at least five (5) years of experience as Character FX/Rigging TD in a VFX studio
  • Follow creative & technical briefs with regard to the production schedule and set milestones

CG Generalist

DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for a talented CG Generalist to join our VFX department and work on 3D feature films and television series.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work will strongly be centered around Assets, and Look Development
  • Conduct research in accordance with current projects
  • Gather, manage and organize references used for modeling
  • Digital model creation according to the developed concept or according to the obtained references
  • Make UVs on selected objects
  • Create textures on objects
  • Create lighting for scenes
  • Prepare layers expected by the compositing team
  • Start renders and check the quality of the renders
  • Identify, analyze, solve and document problems encountered
  • Being able to work with the visual effect supervisor and the lead CG artist to determine the best possible techniques and creative approaches.
  • Deliver work within established project targets and the high quality standards of the company.
  • Organize and manage his/her work to be able to function in a VFX production pipeline and be able to receive comments and criticisms and communicate well with members of his team.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Have at least five (5) years of experience as CG Generalist in a VFX studio
  • Have a very good knowledge of the following software: Maya, Nuke, V-Ray, Mari, Substance Painter and Photoshop

Senior Compositor

DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Senior Compositor to join our team and work on feature films and television series. The Senior Compositor reports directly to the Compositing Supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Working closely with Compositing Supervisor to determine best approach to solve compositing challenges and develop final look.

• Performing tasks such as tracking, matte extraction, colour correction, paint fixes, roto and assembly of live action and 3D elements.

• Producing a final overall look that exceeds client expectations.

REQUIREMENTS

• Must have at least 5+ years experience in compositing digital visual effects for feature film.

• Knowledge of basic concepts of filmmaking, including: cinematography, lighting, camera movement, editing.

• Must have thorough knowledge and ability to use the tools that produce Digital Composites such as NUKE, Fusion, Flame and Photoshop.

• Must present a show reel highlighting eye for colour, lighting, attention to detail and composition.

• Must have the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

• Strong communication skills are critical.

• Candidate must be able to work within a team environment.

Senior 3D Animator

DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Senior 3D Animator to join our team and work on feature films and television series. The Senior 3D Animator reports directly to the CG Supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create feature level key-frame animation 
  • Work closely with the CG Supervisor on the creative vision 
  • Strong understanding of the principles of animation as well posing, timing and weight 
  • Create believable animation with convincing performances and motion 
  • The ability to complete digi-double, creature, character and rigid body animation

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have 5+ years animation experience for live action feature film and/ or animated television series
  • College diploma or equivalent in 3D animation 
  • Must have thorough knowledge of MAYA software 
  • Knowledge of V-Ray or RedShift is a plus

Visual Effects

VFX Production Coordinator

DESCRIPTION:

Working alongside the artists and producers, the VFX Production Coordinator ensures that shots are being followed closely and delivered corresponding to well-formed goals and/ or objectives and deadlines. The VFX Production Coordinator will assist in making sure that projects run efficiently and support to set-up the daily operations of the team.

This position requires effective project management and communication skills. Capability of remaining composed under pressure and working effectively in fast-paced environments and dealing with tight deadlines. Demonstrated ability of multitasking, prioritizing, showing attention to detail, organizational skills and a ‘can do’ attitude is highly desirable.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Planning and/ or coordinating project meetings, dailies and rounds
  • Tracking and logging all shot notes from dailies, rounds and cinesync and from clients
  • Making sure teams understand daily delivery goals 
  • Successfully managing and observing numerous assignments
  • Organizing and giving precedence to tracking project details and internal technical assignments 
  • Managing and coordinating media for cinesync and/ or client review meetings
  • Ensuring work is finished on time, approved and meets the needs of the specific project
  • Providing frequent team updates and communicating effectively
  • Shotgun Management: updating project scope, status and completion details
  • Organizing and putting together shot deliveries along with submission paperwork
  • Preparing reports, monitoring and handling progress, issues and recording findings and requirements
  • Determining quality control and project closure processes


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience within the VFX or Film Production industry
  • Knowledge of visual effects pipeline, visual effects processes and terminologies  are considered an asset

Render Wrangler

DESCRIPTION:

The Render Wrangler works with producers and artists to ensure shots are being tracked, rendered and delivered according to deadlines. The successful candidate will be required to work a shift adjusted schedule and will support the Technical Director and Systems Administrator.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensuring that render jobs are properly prioritized in the queue system so that project goals are met.
  • Monitoring rendering quality and quantity, as well as making the required corrections when needed;
  • Communicating with the production team outstanding issues, as well as overall render performance and efficiency.
  • Script tools to automate common tasks and improve workflow
  • Create and distribute weekly render reports
  • Render Wrangler support is typically required after hours and on specific weekends depending on project demands

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous work experience as a Render Wrangler preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of experience within the VFX industry is desirable 
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Computer animation and/or Information Technology or equivalent professional experience
  • Understanding of VFX Pipeline for feature film & television productions 
  • Awareness of visual effects processes and CG workflow is helpful
  • Familiarity with LINUX / UNIX environments;
  • Production Skills with CG lighting;
  • Comfortable with Cloud Rendering Services
  • Knowledge of production management software such as Shotgun is beneficial
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python is valuable
  • Check errors and troubleshoot a wide variety of technical problems

I/O Operator

DESCRIPTION:

Operating in a fast paced environment the I/O operator will deal with digital assets entering and leaving the facility via electronic and physical means. Communicating effectively with the client and editorial team as well as DI facilities to ensure accurate and timely transfers. The position will involve afternoon and evening working hours. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Handling incoming and outgoing secure data transfers for the studio
  • Responsibility of timely communication with the team and the client and vendors
  • Work with all projects and key stake-holders; clients and vendors in transferring data and remaining on top of all delivery needs 
  • Maintaining of transfer audit trail
  • Informing internal production and editorial that material is available for ingest
  • Uploading material to client servers
  • Managing the upload and download of material between the facility and outsource partners
  • Accountable for protecting sensitive IP content entering and exiting the studio

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Entry-level position
  • Ability to work with high volumes of data to meet tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, highly organized and detail oriented
  • Proficient in Mac, and Linux operating systems
  • Experience with a variety of file transfer protocols

Senior Matte Painter

DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Matte Painter will create and design concepts firmly rooted in the story and style of the film. Recreate photo realistic matte paintings to be used as an element to either embellish or replace live action footage, digital still photography, rendered CG elements and digital paint.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The artist must be comfortable in a variety of implementations: 2D backdrops, textured elements/fixes and complex 2.5D/3D projections
  • Thorough knowledge of advanced matte painting techniques including colour, space, digital paint techniques and Photoshop file management (file format, bit depth resolution, appropriate layering of elements)
  • A good understanding and application of fundamental perspective as a basis for a form building/correcting strategy in the creation of the digital environments
  • Technical expertise in photography with an importance on lighting, depth, colour and composition

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience on feature films/televisions/commercials
  • Working knowledge of the basic principles of 3D texture projections in Maya and Nuke
  • Must have the ability to work both autonomously and within a team environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are critical
